WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced that baseball bat and equipment manufacturer Tater Bats in Waterbury is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” Tater Bats is a family owned and operated business that specializes in the manufacturing of premium maple and birch baseball bats for professional use. Tater Bats uses straight grained premium woods to provide well-crafted and performing baseball bats for both youth and adult players.

“I’m a huge baseball fan, so I take pride in being able to highlight a Connecticut company whose bats are used by big league players,” said Murphy. “Tater Bats is relatively new but are already making an impact. I look forward to seeing great things from them.”

“Being a manufacturer in Connecticut allows a lot of versatility. To start, it is particularly central to several professional baseball organizations in any which direction you go. Another great notion in consideration to the geographic location of the state is that we are in close proximity of the wood supply which allows to source fresh and high quality raw materials. Lastly, Connecticut residents have been extremely supportive and take pride in supporting a product made in the state,” said Freddie Vargas Jr., founder of Tater Bats.

Tater Bats is a family run business that was founded in 2015. The company was born out of a small wood shop and has evolved into a leader in the baseball industry. Major League Baseball (MLB) outfielders Starling Marte, Byron Buxton, Adam Eaton and Michael A. Taylor have hit a home-run or two using a bat manufactured at the Waterbury-based company. Aside from MLB players, Tater Bats also produce bats and baseball gear for Minor League Baseball, independent baseball as well as amateur youth to college players. Tater Bats uses innovative designs and utilizes the most advanced equipment to provide consistency and quality assurance for all of its customers. Each baseball bat is custom made to the players’ performance need.

The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating the state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,600 manufacturers account for 10% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the BuyAmerican.gov Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
