WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement after the Department of Health and Human Services released its enrollment numbers for January:

These enrollment numbers continue to move in the right direction and show that the Affordable Care Act is working. People across the country—27 percent of whom are young adults—want to take advantage of the benefits guaranteed by the Affordable Care Act, like free preventive screenings and coverage for pre-existing conditions, which will improve their health and push down the cost of health care. Thousands of previously uninsured individuals at all income levels are finally able to get health coverage because of this law.

Despite the good news and the massive cost savings in this law, Republicans have tried on almost 50 separate occasions to repeal these benefits and strip coverage from 41 million Americans. That’s not right, but as more and more Americans enroll in these plans, I hope more and more Republicans in Washington will get the message that this law is working.
