WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced on Monday that he has appointed Jayvon Eason, a junior at Crosby High School in Waterbury, to serve as a U.S. Senate Page for the Spring 2020 program. Jayvon will have the opportunity to work in the Senate chamber and assist with day-to-day operations at the Capitol. He arrives at the U.S. Capitol for his first day as a Senate Page on January 27, 2020.

“Jayvon is an honor roll student and promising young leader who has a passion for using technology to make government work better for people,” said Murphy. “The Senate Page Program is a rewarding opportunity for our nation’s future leaders to see policy making and senatorial deliberation up close in our nation’s capital. It’s important to note the timing of Jayvon’s arrival to Washington. He’ll have a front-row seat to history as we go through the third Senate impeachment trial in history. I’m happy to welcome him to the Senate.”

This opportunity is something I hope will give me a deeper understanding on how our nation functions and how it could be fixed. Page responsibilities include delivery of correspondence and legislative materials within the Congressional complex, taking messages for members, preparing the Chamber for Senate sessions, and carrying bills and amendments to the desk. Pages are also required to attend classes each morning at the Page School beginning at 6:15am. The Senate Page Program is administered by the Sergeant at Arms, the Secretary of the Senate, and the party secretaries.
