WASHINGTON —Today, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), leader of the #ACAWorks campaign and member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, released the following statement after supporting meaningful measures to reform our nation’s broken gun laws, and voting against the Republicans’ bill to repeal key aspects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and defund critical health services provided by Planned Parenthood through the budget reconciliation process:

“If the federal government believes someone is a terrorist and is too dangerous to be allowed on an airplane, why on earth do we let them buy deadly weapons? It makes no sense,” said Murphy. “We tried to put a stop to that today, but Republicans in Congress wouldn’t let us. Instead of working in a bipartisan way to keep Americans safe, they wasted hours on doomed efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and defund Planned Parenthood."
