WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement after voting on Wednesday for a short-term continuing resolution to keep the government funded through December 9, 2016.

“While this bill isn’t perfect, Connecticut deserves better than a government shutdown. The negotiations over the last few days brought us to a bill I could support. Democrats made sure that it included long overdue emergency funding to combat Zika and removed partisan poison-pill provisions that would endanger women’s health. But make no mistake, we still have a lot of work to do before the end of the year. Simply avoiding a shutdown shouldn’t be the standard for success. Let’s get to work on responsibly funding a government that puts boosting our economy and growing good-paying jobs first.”
