WASHINGTON— U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement on Friday after voting for the continuing resolution to fund the government through April 28, 2017:
“People are sick of government business as usual. That’s why it makes no sense to me that – time and time again – Congress reverts to patchwork funding bills that rubber stamp spending that isn’t working. It’s time for Congress to get back to passing responsible, long-term budgets. That was my priority in the Appropriations Committee this year, and I’m disheartened that once again, we’re kicking the can down the road.
“But Connecticut deserves better than a government shutdown, and that’s why I voted for this short-term funding bill. I worked hard to make sure this bill includes important funding for Connecticut, including $500 million to combat the heroin epidemic and critical support for submarine production and our defense manufacturing jobs, but averting a crisis at the last minute can’t be our standard of success. Let’s gets back in the business of responsibly funding our government and improving the lives of the people we have the honor of serving.”
