WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, released the following statement ahead of his meeting with U.S. Department of Education Secretary nominee Betsy DeVos. Murphy is scheduled to meet privately with DeVos on Tuesday morning. 

“I appreciate the opportunity to meet one-on-one with Betsy DeVos ahead of the HELP Committee hearing on her nomination. Education is a personal issue for me – my mother was a teacher, my wife works in education, and I’m a dad of two young boys. I’m looking forward to a frank conversation with tough questions about her plans and her values.”
