WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, released the following statement on Wednesday on the withdrawal of Andy Puzder’s nomination to be Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor. Murphy has been a vocal opponent of Puzder’s nomination.

“A baseline requirement for being the Secretary of Labor is that you like workers,” said Murphy. “Andy Puzder made his name by openly mocking workers, and his restaurants frequently violated all sorts of important labor laws. There were few people President Trump could have picked who would be more ill-suited to head the Labor Department, and I'm very pleased that enough Republicans realized this to force an end to his nomination. President Trump should nominate someone who has spent their life fighting to help workers – not belittling them – immediately.”
