WASHINGTON–U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) on Tuesday released the following statement after the U.S. Senate voted to raise the debt ceiling.

“I’m grateful to Senators Schumer and McConnell for working out a deal to let Senate Democrats prevent the catastrophic economic collapse that would have resulted from the government defaulting on its debt: millions of jobs lost, a stock market crash, delays in Social Security payments and veterans’ benefits, and cuts to child nutrition and food assistance programs. Now, Congress must pass the Build Back Better bill as soon as possible to create jobs and lower costs for working families,” said Murphy.
