WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement on Thursday after voting to raise the debt ceiling and extend government funding through December 8th, and provide $15.25 billion in disaster relief funds for victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, and other major disasters.

“Nobody should be happy with what Congress did today. Congress did the bare minimum – it made sure we paid our bills for the next three months and provided a much-needed down payment of aid to victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. The people of Texas and Florida will need much more help, and the clock is still ticking towards default and a government shutdown if Congress can’t reach an agreement in three short months. People in Connecticut want Congress to get back to passing long-term, responsible budgets that put boosting our economy and growing good-paying jobs first. Let’s stop kicking the can down the road.”
