WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement after voting against taking up the Stop Sanctuary Policies and Protect Americans Act:

“Republicans in Congress are trying to tell police officers in Connecticut how to do their jobs. This bill puts nearly $20 million of annual federal assistance for law enforcement in cities like Hartford and New Haven in jeopardy,” said Murphy. “Rather than taking partisan show votes on a harmful anti-immigrant bill, we should be focused on passing comprehensive immigration reform that secures our borders, helps law enforcement, and provides a pathway to citizenship that will keep families together.”
