WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released a statement on Monday on the tragic wildfire in Portugal that killed at least 62 people and injured dozens.

“My thoughts are with the people of Portugal and Connecticut’s entire Portuguese community as they mourn and try to recover from this devastating tragedy. My office is here and ready to assist any Connecticut residents looking for answers about loved ones.”

Connecticut is home to roughly 40,000 Portuguese-Americans and has one of the largest Portuguese-American populations in the United States. Connecticut residents seeking assistance are encouraged to call Murphy’s office at 860-549-8463.
