WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement on Tuesday expressing condolences to the loved ones of the victims of the plane carrying the Chapecoense soccer team from southern Brazil that crashed in Colombia, killing 75 people. Connecticut is home to over 60,000 Brazilian-American residents and the positive influence of the Brazilian community can be seen throughout the Danbury region.

“This was just heartbreaking. What was supposed to be a celebration of a Cinderella story became a horrific tragedy. My thoughts go out to the loved ones of the victims, to the entire country of Brazil, and to the Brazilian community throughout Connecticut, as they grieve those whose lives were cut short too soon.”
