WASHINGTON–U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Thursday released the following statement on the Biden administration’s response to Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine:

“Putin will come to regret the panicked decision he made to invade Ukraine. I applaud the president's decision to exact a heavy price on the Russian government and economy, and the fact that he did this together with our allies makes the blow more impactful,” said Murphy. “I will be working with my colleagues in Congress in a bipartisan way to provide continued assistance to Ukraine in its hour of need – as well as taking steps to reassure our vulnerable eastern flank NATO allies. Innocent civilians always pay the steepest price in war, and we must spare no expense in appropriating emergency humanitarian aid to support the Ukrainian people in the face of a potential humanitarian catastrophe. My heart is with the people of Ukraine, and I’ll make sure the United States stands by them.”
