HARTFORD—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Chairman of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs, released the following statement on recent developments in Eastern Ukraine:

Given Russia’s recent provocations in Eastern Ukraine, the United States should operate under the assumption that Putin has decided to invade.  The events unfolding in the region are just too similar to what the world witnessed in Crimea earlier this year for us to think that the outcome will be any different. It’s time for the United States to act with broad, crippling sanctions against Russia across the banking, mining, and energy sectors.
