WASHINGTON —U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement on Friday on the shooting at the Ft. Lauderdale Airport that has left at least five people dead and multiple people injured.
“My heart goes out to the victims of today’s shooting and their families, and my sincere gratitude to local law enforcement and airport officials for their quick response. Americans shouldn’t fear going to the airport, movie theater, church, or school. But our country is awash with guns, putting innocent lives at risk while Congress continues to do absolutely nothing to close glaring loopholes in our gun laws. As we continue to learn more about this shooting, it should serve as a stark reminder to members of Congress that their inaction is a choice that makes them complicit.”
