WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement on Thursday after the U.S. Senate approved the bipartisan Congressional Accountability Act of 1995 Reform Act (CAA Reform Act), which updates and strengthens the procedures available to victims of harassment and discrimination. The legislation, which Murphy cosponsored, would overhaul the dispute resolution process to support victims, provide additional protections for congressional staff, and hold members of Congress personally accountable for repaying settlements based on acts of harassment they personally commit.

“Nobody working in a congressional office or any other setting should feel afraid to come to work. This is an important change. It should not have taken us this long to change this broken system and give victims of harassment the protections and support they deserve.”
