WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near East, South Asia, Central Asia and Counterterrorism, on Monday released the following statement on the political turmoil and violence in Tunisia:

“Since the Arab Spring, Tunisia has been a bright spot for democracy in the region, so I am deeply worried about the political turmoil and violence that has recently erupted there. All political actors in Tunis must come to the table to find a solution to the crisis, and protect the human rights of peaceful protestors, political activists and journalists. The United States should work with our democratic allies to make clear that Tunisia needs to establish a clear timeline for returning to normal order and the rule of law in accordance with the Tunisian constitution as soon as possible,” said Murphy.
