WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Tuesday released the following statement on the elections in Peru:
“I’m glad to see the Peruvian people’s voices heard at the polls and congratulate President-elect Pedro Castillo. It’s especially promising to see the resiliency of Peru’s democratic institutions as they reviewed claims of fraud and irregularity in the weeks since last month’s runoff and have upheld free and fair elections,” said Murphy. “We should now be focused on doing what we can to support Peru’s peaceful transition of power.”
