WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, on Wednesday released the following statement on the Northeast Corridor Commission’s CONNECT NEC 2035 plan:

“We act like fast, reliable rail is a pipe dream, but in reality, it’s within reach—if we just make the right investments,” said Murphy. “Revitalizing and revamping the Northeast Corridor (NEC) is essential to the region’s economic success. It will also help us combat climate change, create new jobs and cut commute times for the millions of people who use it. I applaud the Northeast Corridor Commission, the Federal Railroad Administration, Amtrak, state Departments of Transportation, and other stakeholders for coming together to craft this thoughtful blueprint for a modern rail system. The CONNECT NEC 2035 plan is a smart strategy for a renewed NEC, and as we debate an infrastructure package in Congress, I’m pushing hard to secure federal funding to make this a reality and advance fast and reliable rail.”
