WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs, released the following statement regarding a new round of Russian sanctions announced by the United States and the European Union today:

Today’s sanctions by the U.S. and the EU show that we’re unified in holding Russia accountable for its continued aggression. Russia is going to feel real economic pain and it’s in their best interest to retreat from their destructive agenda. Until Moscow halts the flow of weapons and fighters across their border, the United States, the European Union, and our other international partners should continue to ratchet up sanctions, making it clear that this aggression will not be tolerated. These sanctions are tough, but we won’t stop here if Russia refuses to back down.
