HARTFORD —Today, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), leader of the Senate Democrats’ #ACAWorks Campaign and member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, released the following statement on the first day of the 2016 Open Enrollment period for Access Health CT, Connecticut’s health insurance marketplace that was established through the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Open Enrollment for 2016 coverage starts today, November 1, 2015, and ends on January 31, 2016.
“Thanks to the ACA, almost 18 million people have gained access to health coverage. The law is working, and American families of all incomes are back in charge of their health care. Federal and state exchanges are now operating better than ever, and there are affordable plans available for everyone. For Connecticut residents, Access Health CT offers in-person assistance and online tools to make enrolling in health insurance easy,” said Murphy. “This is about the real lives of moms and dads who, before the ACA, lived every day with the burden of knowing they were one accident or illness away from total financial ruin.”
Since the ACA was implemented five years ago, 17.6 million previously uninsured people have gained insurance, and health care costs are growing at the slowest rate in 50 years.
Since Access Health CT opened in 2013, the number of Connecticut’s uninsured has dropped dramatically from 12% to 3.8%. Connecticut residents looking to enroll in coverage or change their existing health care plans should visit Access Health CT’s webpage. Easy, one-on-one in-person help is available to Connecticut residents at each of the Access Health CT Enrollment Centers:
