WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement regarding a new round of Russian sanctions announced by the Administration today:
The sanctions announced by the Administration today send a strong signal to Moscow that its aggression won’t be tolerated by the United States and the community of nations. Russia’s continued provocations are in direct contravention of the agreement reached in Geneva earlier this month, and until we see real action from Moscow to comply with this deal, the United States must continue to ratchet up sanctions, making it clear to the Russians that there will be crippling consequences to their aggression. Now it is time for our European allies to follow suit with equally strong sanctions. Europe should be leading, not following, on sending a strong message to Russia regarding their illegal actions in Ukraine, and my hope is that Europe soon realizes that the security and economic threat posed to Europe by unchecked Russian aggression is not theoretical - it is real and current.
