WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement today on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s approval of the Assault Weapons Ban:
Today is a big step forward in the fight for common-sense gun reform. People across the country have spoken out loud and clear and called on this Congress to get military-style assault weapons off our streets and out of our schools. I applaud the Judiciary Committee for acting on these measures and for being a voice for the 26 victims of the Sandy Hook shooting, and the thousands of victims of gun violence across the country. No hunter or sportsman needs these high powered weapons to enjoy their sport. And you certainly don't need an 100 round magazine to protect yourself. There are no longer any excuses for inaction—it’s time for Congress to get to work and pass this bill.
