WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) proposed terminating the Section 8 Housing Assistance Payments contract with Ah Min Holding, LLC and Emmanuel Ku in the North End of Hartford, including the Clay Arsenal Renaissance Apartments. Murphy and U.S. Senator Blumenthal (D-Conn.) joined a letter led by U.S. Representative John Larson (CT-1) to HUD Secretary Carson urging action to address the deplorable living conditions.
“It’s absolutely ridiculous what families in Hartford’s North End have had to go through. Emmanuel Ku had no business getting subsidized by taxpayers to treat people like dirt. This decision came because residents refused to remain silent. I appreciate the tenants who made their voice heard and the work of so many to advocate for them, including Rep. Larson and Mayor Bronin. Now we have to get to work to make sure these families have the housing they deserve and ensure that no more families have to go through what they went through,” said Murphy.
