WASHINGTONU.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Tuesday released the following statement on the earthquake in Haiti:

“What devastating news coming out of Haiti this weekend. I am glad the United States has mobilized quickly to send immediate humanitarian aid to the country, and are taking steps to support the Haitian people as Tropical Depression Grace threatens to exacerbate the suffering,” said Murphy. “As we help Haiti conduct their search and rescue mission following the earthquake, we must not lose sight of the brutal assassination of President Moise and the cycle of violence that has gone on for too long. We should remain laser focused on supporting a credible political process leading to free and fair elections so Haitian people have a say in the future of their country.”

Last month, Murphy released a statement following the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise.
