WASHINGTON–U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Tuesday released the following statement after Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ address to a joint meeting of Congress:

“As we push back against the global current of autocracy, the longstanding ties and shared values between the U.S. and Greece are more important than ever. That's why I traveled to Athens last year, and I'm so proud that Greece has been a critical partner in supporting Ukraine. Today I was especially glad to hear of Prime Minister Mitsotakis’ intentions to diversify energy sources and end their reliance on Russian oil and gas,” said Murphy. “Connecticut is home to a large Greek-American community, and I was honored to be joined by Rep. Kavros DeGraw, a proud member of that community.”

Murphy brought Connecticut State Representative Eleni Kavros DeGraw as his guest to the address. Murphy traveled to Greece last year on a CODEL with U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.), where they met with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and young Greek leaders to reaffirm the U.S.-Greece relationship.
