WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement after the Protect Women’s Health from Corporate Interference Act was blocked by Republicans in the Senate today.

“The immediate effect of last month’s decision in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. is that a woman’s boss can call the shots about her health care decisions – an outrageous intrusion into a woman’s personal life that needs to be reversed. I proudly cosponsored the Protect Women’s Health from Corporate Interference Act because businesses shouldn’t be allowed to impose their religious beliefs on their employees and women should be trusted to make decisions about their health in conjunction with their doctors, not their bosses. But despite that, Senate Republicans blocked our legislation that would have allowed women to take back control of their health care decisions. The ACA has already expanded services for millions of women across the country, and I will continue to fight to ensure that women in Connecticut and across the country have improved access to health benefits, including contraception.”
