WASHINGTON–U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) on Thursday released the following statement after voting in support of a resolution to remove the arbitrary deadline currently blocking ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.

“Despite the fact that the constitutionally-required 38 states – including Connecticut – have ratified the Equal Rights Amendment, an arbitrary deadline from fifty years ago is holding women’s rights hostage. It should be a no brainer for Congress to do everything we can to make sure women are treated equally under the law. It’s really sad most Republicans blocked this important step to protect women’s rights,” said Murphy.
