WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Monday released the following statement on the build-up of Russian forces along the Ukrainian border:
“I am deeply concerned about the buildup of Russian military forces along the Ukrainian border, and it is Russia's responsibility to de-escalate the situation immediately. Unfortunately, if past is predicate, this kind of provocation by Russia is often followed by disastrous escalation. This is precisely why it is so vital for the United States to continue to provide the political, economic, and security assistance Ukraine’s government needs to defend itself. I’m glad to see Secretary Blinken is meeting with allies in Brussels this week to discuss Russia’s aggression towards its neighbors. Cementing the U.S.-Europe commitment to Ukraine is critical to sending a message to the Kremlin that none of Ukraine's friends will abandon her in this time of need," said Murphy.
