WASHINGTON—U.S Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Tuesday released the following statement on the Biden administration’s response to Russia’s increasing aggression in Ukraine:
“From the beginning, the Biden administration made clear that Russia was going to pay a heavy price should Putin further invade Ukraine. I am glad to see the President start to deliver on this promise by announcing an initial package of sanctions and moving more U.S. forces into a defensive posture on NATO’s eastern flank,” said Murphy. “The President also made clear that further aggression will be met with even more severe consequences. I’ll be working with my colleagues in the Senate to support the Ukrainian people and ensure the President has the authorities he needs to impose tough costs on Vladimir Putin and his inner circle.”
Last week, Murphy traveled to the Munich Security Conference (MSC)—a leading forum for international security policy—where he reaffirmed U.S. global leadership and discussed the increasing likelihood that Russia will further invade Ukraine.
