WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, on Monday welcomed the Biden administration’s continued investments in disaster assistance and action to make resources more widely available across all communities:

“The climate crisis is worsening, as made especially clear by the recent UN report—making disaster preparedness and resilience all the more important. By continuing to invest federal dollars in important programs like Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC), Flood Mitigation Assistance, and the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, it’s clear the Biden administration gets this. Today’s news will allow more communities in Connecticut to equitably and adequately prepare and respond to natural disasters by applying for federal dollars, and I look forward to working with folks in my state to make sure we’re ready for any natural disasters,” said Murphy.

Earlier this year, Murphy welcomed the Biden administration’s investment of $1 billion for the BRIC program, which helps states and local communities develop projects that prepare for and reduce risk from extreme weather events and other disasters.
