HARTFORD – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) applauded the Obama administration on Thursday for offering support and assistance to Italy following the devastating earthquake there earlier this week.

“My heart goes out to the communities in central Italy as they cope with the devastating aftermath of the earthquake. Connecticut’s ties to Italy run deep, and we stand ready to assist. I applaud President Obama for offering our complete support in this time of great need. My office is here to help Connecticut residents seeking answers about loved ones,” said Murphy.

Connecticut is home to over 500,000 Italian-American residents. The U.S. State Department is advising U.S. citizens abroad in Italy to contact the U.S. Embassy at 06-4674 2944 or USCitizensRome@state.gov. Connecticut residents seeking assistance are also encouraged to call Murphy’s office at 860-549-8463.
