WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Wednesday released the following statement on the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise:

“The killing of President Moise is a sad and troubling development and a continuation of the violence that has charted Haiti’s political course for far too long. Haiti’s leaders should come together to prevent this horrible act from triggering violent reprisals, and conduct a full investigation to hold accountable those involved with this heinous assassination. In the coming months, the international community should be laser focused on supporting free and fair elections that allow the Haitian people to control their future,” said Murphy.
