WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Wednesday made the following statement on the reconciliation agreement between the Saudi-backed government in Yemen and the Southern Transitional Council (STC). On Wednesday, Murphy also met with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir to discuss the Riyadh agreement and the potential for a broader peace deal in Yemen:
“The Riyadh agreement is a positive step to avert the fracturing of Yemen, and ensures the STC has a seat at the table when determining the country’s future. Coupled with the recent de-escalation of violence, I hope this agreement will bring us closer to a broader political settlement to finally end the war and brutal humanitarian crisis in Yemen,” said Murphy.
