WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, criticized the Trump administration on Tuesday for arguing that the courts should strike down the entire Affordable Care Act, including protections for the over 100 million people with pre-existing conditions. Despite promises on the campaign trail to uphold these consumer protections, the Trump administration has repeatedly tried to eliminate protections for people with pre-existing conditions and drive up health care costs. If the Trump administration is successful, this would result in millions of people, including those newly enrolled in Medicaid expansion, losing health care coverage. Murphy has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration’s continued sabotage of the American health care system.

“We’ve always known that President Trump had no intention of protecting the Affordable Care Act. But this move makes it clear that he is willing to use the full weight of the federal government to try and rip health care away from millions of Americans. He is directing his lawyers to eliminate protections for people pre-existing conditions. He wants to slash addiction care and make it so young people can no longer be on their parents’ insurance until age 26. And he wants to make it a whole hell of a lot more expensive for people to get health care. Voters spoke out in the midterm elections because they want Congress to protect their health care. The Trump administration’s latest action does the exact opposite,”  said Murphy.
