HARTFORD – After hearing directly from more than a thousand Connecticut commuters about why they’re “fed up” with the dire state of Connecticut’s roads and rail lines, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) on Friday released his “Fed Up” report on New Haven. Murphy first launched his “Fed Up” campaign last year to hear directly from residents to reduce traffic and congestion and improve public transportation across the state. The report identifies the specific trouble areas for New Haven’s commuters and proposes recommendations for improvements along I-95 and other key public transit features, like Metro North and the New Haven-Hartford line. This is important given that over one-third of New Haven residents use an alternative mode of transportation to get to work, more than commuters in any other city or town in the state.
Murphy, a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, is focused on securing federal investments for Connecticut’s transportation infrastructure.
“New Haven is a city unlike any other in the state. More residents walk or take advantage of rail, buses, and bikes to get to work than anywhere else. There are some exciting new developments, like the recent federal TIGER grant to finish the redesign of Downtown Crossing and ongoing work on the New Haven-Hartford rail line, but there’s a lot more work to do” said Murphy. “This report compiles what I’ve heard from New Haven commuters and outlines steps to help fix our broken transportation system. The bottom line is commuters don’t need to accept the status quo of gridlock and delays.”

This is Murphy’s third “Fed Up” report. He previously released a report on Bridgeport and Norwalk. Connecticut residents are encouraged to visit Murphy’s website and share their commuting experiences at www.murphy.senate.gov/fedup.
