HARTFORD -- U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) on Friday, hours after celebrating the 70th anniversary of Terryville’s Lauretano Manufacturing, released the following statement recognizing October 7th as National Manufacturing Day:
“I know what manufacturing means to Connecticut because I’ve seen it firsthand. I’ve watched business owners dedicate their time and money to train their workers, expand their businesses, and improve their communities. I’ve heard recent graduates of training programs discuss what new job opportunities will mean for them and their families. And I’ve seen the pride in workers’ eyes as the products they make help change the world,” said Murphy.
“What makes 21st century manufacturing thrive in Connecticut is the unparalleled skilled and dedication of our workers,” Murphy added. “On this National Manufacturing Day, I’m redoubling my commitment to use my seats on the education and appropriations committees to make sure Connecticut manufacturers have the workforce and federal support they need to prosper and grow.”
Every week, Murphy highlights a local manufacturer through his “Murphy Monday Manufacturer” series. The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,602 manufacturers account for 10.2% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
