HARTFORD – Today, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement as the state kicks off Connecticut Export Week, a weeklong initiative to encourage Connecticut businesses to expand their exports. Connecticut exports over $15 billion in products annually, with manufacturers accounting for 87% of the state’s total international sales.

“For generations, Connecticut’s economy has depended on our manufacturers producing the highest quality products in the world. The bearing factories where my grandfather worked have given way to leading precision manufacturers making parts for jet engines, helicopters and submarines. What we make has changed over time, but customers all over the world know that if a product is made in Connecticut, it’s made to last.

“With successful big companies like UTC and Electric Boat and hundreds of innovative small businesses, our state is a household name in international exports. Whether a company wants to start selling abroad for the first time or expand its existing international presence, Connecticut Export Week is a great opportunity for companies to take that next step.”

Throughout the week, Connecticut companies will have the opportunity to meet with experts and receive training on topics such as market research, financing, website, and compliance. Connecticut Export Week is run by state and federal partners, including the Connecticut District Export Council, International Trade Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. State Department, U.S. Commercial Service, and the State of Connecticut.
