WASHINGTON–U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Friday and Saturday reaffirmed U.S. global leadership at this year’s Munich Security Conference. Murphy met with Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney to strengthen transatlantic ties and reaffirm support for Ukraine. He also met with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan al Saud to reaffirm support for re-entering the Iran nuclear deal and promoting regional stability. Murphy also spoke on climate change and national security at a lunch co-hosted by the Center for American Progress and the Italian Institute of International Affairs.

Murphy joined Senators Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.)’s bipartisan delegation to the Munich Security Conference (MSC). The MSC is widely considered the world’s leading forum for international security policy. The conference is a “marketplace of ideas” where initiatives and solutions are developed and opinions are exchanged. It also provides a venue for diplomatic initiatives and ideas to cooperatively address the world’s most pressing security concerns.
