WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, released the following statement on Friday after voting against the confirmation of Health and Human Services Secretary nominee U.S. Representative Tom Price (R-Ga.). Murphy pressed Price about his dangerous efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and strip health care from over 20 million Americans. Murphy has also raised serious concerns about conflicts of interests in which Price personally invested in companies that stood to benefit from his legislative activity in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Senate voted to confirm Price 52 to 47.
“Tom Price has dedicated his career to weakening Medicare and Medicaid, and dismantling the Affordable Care Act. If he gets his way, millions will lose their health insurance, costs will explode and patient care will be decimated,” said Murphy.
“This nomination isn’t about politics, it’s about life and death. When I talk with people in Connecticut about what may happen to health care, I can hear the fear in their voices that Donald Trump will take away the insurance they depend on,” added Murphy. “I’ll do everything I can to protect Connecticut families and their health care.”
