WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement on Thursday after House Republicans delayed a planned vote on Trumpcare, the short-sighted and irresponsible plan to raise costs and reduce care to fund a big tax cut for drug and insurance companies and the rich.

“President Trump’s first legislative push is being stalled by his own party because the American people are standing up and yelling ‘stop.’ This bill breaks every one of President Trump’s campaign promises – it will cause millions to lose coverage and costs to skyrocket,” said Murphy. “People in Connecticut know our health care laws aren’t perfect, and they want us all to work together to find tweaks and improvements. I beg my Republican colleagues to abandon this train wreck of a bill, and allow both Democrats and Republicans to write a new bill that keeps what works and fixes what doesn't. The health and lives of the people who elected us depend on us getting this right.”

Murphy has repeatedly called on Congressional Republicans to stop their dangerous crusade to repeal the ACA and to work in a bipartisan way to improve the law. Earlier this week, Murphy lambasted Senate HELP Committee Republicans for refusing to schedule hearings on Trumpcare, and how it would affect patients and families across the country. Murphy recently led 17 senators in demanding Senate Republican leadership conduct an equally transparent and thorough deliberative process on Trumpcare as was conducted in drafting and passing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2009. He also laid out the facts of Trumpcare with a PowerPoint presentation.
