HARTFORD—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, this week met virtually with Connecticut Education Commissioner and President-elect Joe Biden’s nominee to be the U.S. Secretary of Education, Dr. Miguel Cardona. The two discussed the importance of making sure our schools can operate safely amid this pandemic, supporting students with disabilities, tackling racial segregation and inequities in our education system, improving outcomes for college students, and other key education priorities of the incoming administration. Murphy released the following statement after their discussion:

"Miguel Cardona has spent his career fighting for students and educators across Connecticut. And now, as the nominee to be our next Secretary of Education, he's going to have the chance to scale his work nationally," said Murphy.

Murphy continued: "The education challenges we face are grave. COVID-19 has upended learning for millions, especially students with disabilities, and we must take bold action to address the racial inequities in our education system. But if there's anyone up for the job, it's my friend Miguel Cardona. I look forward to seeing the Senate quickly take up and confirm his nomination."
