HARTFORD – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced on Monday that Leipold Precision Components of Windsor is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” Leipold is a precision components manufacturer that manufactures components for the automotive, electrical, telecommunications, medical, construction and industrial engineering industries. Leipold, a German-owned company, opened its first plant outside of Germany in Windsor in 1998. Counting Windsor, Leipold has five locations worldwide with its headquarters in Wolfach, Germany and the remaining operations in Dransfeld, Germany; Bunde, Germany; and Bridgetown, England. Forty employees currently work in its Windsor facility.

Last year, Leipold worked with the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development to secure a Manufacturers Assistance Act loan to help the company double production, expand its Windsor facility by 20,000 square feet, and hire and train twenty new employees. Leipold Group currently partners with Asnuntuck Community College on an apprenticeship program for machinists. The company has hired students through the program.

“Companies like Leipold reinforce the importance of Connecticut’s global footprint when it comes to manufacturing,” said Murphy. “The recent growth of Leipold’s facility in Windsor as well as its commitment to our state is worth celebrating.”

The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,600 manufacturers account for 10% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
