WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced aerospace manufacturer Spectrum Machine & Design, in Windsor Locks, is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” Spectrum specializes in the manufacturing of complex components for aircraft engines, airframe components and defense hardware.
Spectrum Machine & Design was founded in 1999 as a startup in the South Glastonbury garage of Connie and Gary Poesnecker. Over the first twelve years, the company outgrew its garage and saw business grow rapidly. After moving to two different facilities in Glastonbury, Spectrum now operates out of a 17,000 square-foot modern facility in Windsor Locks and has 24 employees. Spectrum manufacturers components that are used in Pratt & Whitney, General Electric and Rolls Royce aircraft engines, NASA, and the U.S. military.
Recognizing the need to encourage and mentor a young workforce in the manufacturing industry, Spectrum enjoys a mutually beneficial relationship with technical schools, providing internship positions while students are in school. The majority of students who intern are offered full-time employment upon graduation.
“For nearly 20 years, Spectrum has produced quality products that are used around the world, and has been committed to training the next generation in the manufacturing industry right here in Connecticut. I am proud to highlight them,” said Murphy.
“A major component of our success has been in the development of a working culture and environment that attracts and retains high caliber personnel. We empower our employees to possess significant involvement and control of shop floor processes and this in turn adds to their career enrichment and fulfillment. We have a relatively young workforce of very bright and motivated individuals, and we continually seek to add talented individuals of any age, to our group,” said Gary Poesnecker, Founder of Spectrum Machine & Design. “We applaud Senator Murphy for his focus on the manufacturing industry in Connecticut, and for the vital role it plays in the economy of our state and nation, as well as our national security.”
The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,600 manufacturers account for 10% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the BuyAmerican.gov Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
