HARTFORD—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced on Monday that Skillcraft Machine Tool Co., Inc. of South Windsor is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” Founded in 1946, Skillcraft’s 32 employees work out of a 20,000 square foot facility in South Windsor, where they manufacturer support equipment for the aerospace industry—including products required to disassemble, service, and re-assemble jet engines. Skillcraft also provides services to many jet engine manufacturers, including Pratt & Whitney. The company is working hard to train the next generation of manufacturers in Connecticut. Skillcraft partnered with Goodwin College to provide internships to students and works alongside a state-registered apprenticeship program. Skillcraft has also recently become a supporter of Tolland’s RAGE Robotics team.
“Our nation’s aerospace manufacturing industry remains strong because of companies like Skillcraft Machine Tool. I would like to applaud the tireless and innovative workers at Skillcraft who have serviced Connecticut’s manufacturing industry for over 70 years. I look forward to their continued growth, and my office is here to help anyway we can,” said Murphy.
“Skillcraft has been a proud Connecticut manufacturer for over 70 years, and we look to build on that history in our new South Windsor facility. Connecticut offers a very talented workforce, and localized supply chain, to support manufacturing from start to finish,” said Jacob Litke of Skillcraft Machine Tool Co., Inc.
The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating the state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s thousands of manufacturers account for 10% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the BuyAmerican.gov Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
