ORANGE – Today, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced that Numet Machining Techniques, Inc. is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” The Orange, Connecticut-based company manufactures precision jet engine components and assemblies, including fan ducts, turbine support rings, hanger shrouds, blade retainers, turbine and compressor casings, and sync ring assemblies for civil and military jet turbine engine markets. Founded in 1984, Numet operates out of a 40,000 square foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility where their 50 employees fulfill contracts for GE Aviation, Pratt & Whitney, and the U.S. Department of Defense.

“Every person here has been focused on expanding Numet’s capabilities and readying ourselves to support the huge increase in demand that is coming from those customers,” said Mark Roscio, CEO of Numet. “In particular, we have relocated to a world class facility, expanded our highly recognized engineering and quality control departments, added new capacity in VTL and 5 Axis milling centers, and increased our access to growth capital.  Our increase in business is a testament to what we have been building here and what we will continue to build in the coming months and years to position ourselves as a world class supplier to our customers.”

In the last four years, Numet has doubled in size, hired 26 new workers, invested more than $5.5 million in new machinery, and accumulated work through 2020 in excess of $250 million. Despite their rapid growth, Numet has remained committed to becoming more environmentally conscious in their new facility. The manufacturer installed high-efficiency lighting and air compressors systems, and is now projected to save over $37,000 per year in energy costs. In fact, Numet was awarded an Energy Efficiency Leadership Award by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund for their energy sustainability and environmental stewardship.

“Whether it’s their expanding workforce or their expanding number of contracts, everything about Numet is high growth.” said Murphy. “They’re contributing to the development of Connecticut’s workers – steadily training and promoting employees – and are playing an integral role supporting our armed forces. Numet’s success is a testament to the quality of their products and is an important reminder of the bright future in store for defense manufacturers across Connecticut.”

The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,602 manufacturers account for 10.2% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
