HARTFORD–U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced that Sillable, based in New Haven, was named “Innovator of the Month.” Sillable is an app designed to give retail shoppers who want to support local businesses while still enjoying the convenience of e-commerce the ability to online shop at brick-and-mortar businesses in New Haven. The app provides a simple platform for small businesses to host and sell their merchandise, offer discounts, and connect with local shoppers.
“Small businesses are the heart of a vibrant downtown, but the dominance of e-commerce giants has made it tough to compete. The team at Sillable is doing important work to strengthen New Haven’s Main Street by helping local businesses connect with shoppers online for the first time. I look forward to seeing their growth in New Haven and beyond,” said Murphy.
“Sillable is proud to be recognized by Chris Murphy as a new software company revitalizing the way that consumers and businesses engage with their local economy in Southern Connecticut. Connecticut provides a unique location for startups that grants access to vibrant residents that are excited to try new technologies,” said Aaron Daniels, CEO of Sillable.
Murphy believes entrepreneurship and innovation are the building blocks for a strong economy. In the U.S. Senate, he has introduced legislation to incentivize angel investors to put more money into startup companies—the Angel Tax Credit Act. Startup companies create an average of 2 million jobs each year.
