WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced electrical wiring harnesses and cable assemblies manufacturer United Avionics, Inc. (UA) in Naugatuck is this week's "Murphy's Monday Manufacturer." For over 38 years, UA has specialized in harnesses and cable assemblies for the aerospace and military markets. UA’s customers include Pratt and Whitney, Sikorsky and Lockheed Martin, Collins Aerospace, Honeywell Engines, and Aerospace, as well as the U.S. Department of Defense. Their products are used to help manufacturer products for our national defense, like the Sikorsky 53K Heavy Lift and UH-60 Blackhawk, Honeywell AGT1500, and Boeing CH47 Chinook to name a few.

UA knows the importance of developing talent early. They routinely work with both Naugatuck Valley Community College and Kaynor Technical High School, hiring students part time while in school to prepare them for full-time hire once they graduate. Over the past two years, United Avionics has averaged 20% growth, and with that growth, UA has continued to increase their workforce. UA has 55 full-time employees who work out of a 22,000 square foot facility in Naugatuck.

“The cables and wires manufactured at United Avionics are used to power the helicopters and aircrafts that defend our country around the world. That’s a big deal. I want to thank UA for their years of service and dedication to manufacturing in Connecticut, especially when it comes to inspiring young people to stay in Connecticut and work in our growing manufacturing industry,” said Murphy.

“We are proud to be a Connecticut manufacturer. We are fortunate to be in such close proximity to so many major Government Prime Contractors,” said Tom Bunk, president of United Avionics, Inc.

The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating the state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,600 manufacturers account for 10% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the BuyAmerican.gov Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
