MANCHESTER – Today, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced that Paramount Machine Company Inc., a family-owned and operated manufacturer of precision machined parts and assemblies for the aerospace industry, is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” Andrew Djiounas founded Paramount in Glastonbury in 1979 after immigrating to Connecticut from Europe. After five years in Glastonbury, Andrew moved the company to a larger facility in Manchester, Connecticut. Since then, the manufacturer has expanded in size several more times, and today, Paramount operates out of a total of 46,000 square feet of manufacturing space that are overseen by Andrew’s children, Nicolas and Steve Djiounas. With the help of 72 employees, Paramount machines a variety of materials – such as castings, forgings, aerospace alloys, and plastics – that are exported to customers around the world.
Paramount takes pride in the fact that the vast majority of their business is devoted to supplying aerospace components to United Technologies. Through this important partnership, Paramount has been recognized by the United Technologies Supplier Gold Program for their on-time compliance and quality products. Paramount has also supported Hamilton Sundstrand’s legacy C-130 propeller system – a system used by almost every member country of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. In June 2014, the U.S. Department of Defense’s commander of procurement at Tinker Air Force Base visited Paramount to thank the company for its hard work and continued support of the U.S. Air Force.
“Connecticut is going through a surge in advanced manufacturing. I’ve seen it firsthand at both major defense manufacturers like United Technologies and at dozens of small and medium-sized businesses across the state,” said Murphy. “Paramount Machine is a driving force behind this surge thanks to the hard work of the Djiounas family, who joined us last week at the UTC Supplier Resource Workshop, and their dedicated employees. By supporting local companies and simultaneously exporting 20% of their goods to manufacturers around the globe, Paramount is powering Connecticut’s economy and creating good-paying jobs.”
Steve Djiounas, Vice President of Paramount Machine Company Inc., said, "Paramount is investing and expanding its business in Connecticut with the growing global aerospace market."
The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,602 manufacturers account for 10.2% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
